A new partnership with Kettering University is helping students pay for college. The Bosch Community Fund announced a new $500,000 fellowship to provide scholarships for students at Kettering. The fellowships will be available for eligible students studying mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering or computer science.
Following several years of planning, Kettering University has managed to get the old Mott Park Golf Course back up and running. It's now known as the Mott Park Disc Golf Course, with grand reopening events on Saturday and Sunday. "This is the first disc golf course in the city of Flint and we're so excited to have this in our community and it's just great for the students," said Kettering University's External Affairs Director Jack Stock.
Leadership at the American Center for Mobility here plans to cultivate high-tech talent from 15 Michigan colleges and universities through a partnership aimed at preparing and retaining new engineers to work on the vehicles of the future.
Flint-area disc golfers will soon be able to throw flip shots, Hyzers and aces at the newly renovated Mott Park Recreation Area Disc Golf Course. Scheduled for completion by the end of this fall, the free, 18-hole course on the land near Kettering University between Nolen and Sunset is part of the three-phase plan to revamp the old Mott Park Golf Course, which closed in 2009.
Students at Kettering University are using a grant from Ford Motor Company to help implement some changes at a local hoop house run by Asbury Church. The hoop house, think of it as a greenhouse, helps to provide families with healthy foods - and the more automated the house is, the easier it will be to grow healthy food year-round, and grow more of it.h
Kettering University ranked first in the country in a Wall Street Journal and Times Higher Education College Rankings survey asking students how well their colleges and universities prepare them for careers. The survey asked students to rate how effective their colleges and universities have been in helping them secure internships that prepare them for careers. Kettering received an average rating of 9.74 out of 10 from survey respondents.
ABC 12 used Kettering University's wind tunnel to simulate the impact hurricane winds can have on people, using a Barbie doll to demonstrate. Kettering instructor Ray Rust whipped up winds to 128 mph, which pushed the doll's legs off the ground. "At least it lets you see where the forces are going to load on you and you notice that it's swept her arms and legs back," Rust said. "So if you were in a real hurricane, you would have to fighting that and the buffering would throw you off balance."
Eastside neighborhoods in Flint will soon have year-around access to healthy food options when Kettering University and the Asbury Community Development Center open in hoop house community garden. The project is made possible by a $25,000 award from the Ford Motor Company Fund to Kettering and the Asbury Community Development center.
Kettering University's precollege programs—AIM (Academically Interested Minds) and LITE (Lives Improve Through Engineering)—look to recruit students of color and women into science, technology, engineering, math, and business studies and career paths. "The (AIM) program opened that doorway for me," said Chelsea Reeves '18.
In a column for Forbes, Sam Abuelsamid '90 discussed 'Why Driving Matters.' "It will be a sad day when we can longer drive cars like this because nothing beats putting the top down on a warm summer evening and just going for a trip to nowhere in particular," he wrote.
Coatings engineer Laura Correa '16 had much to celebrate when she received her diploma from Kettering University. With her cap and gown, she wore a special cord and honors medal to signify she was graduating cum laude both in her overall class and in her major of chemistry. She also had a job lined up at Continental Structural Plastics
